Weekly photo challenge : monuments, Sarovaram restaurant at Kochi, based on Laurie Baker architecture

20140412-235930.jpg

Every building constructed this way in Kerala is as per Laurie baker architecture, a monument for the German who spent most of his life in Kerala, inventing and evangelising his own style of architecture, emphasising the usage of locally available material, and simple designs suiting the local climatic conditions, thus reducing cost, without compromising comfort.

The above photograph was captured at the ‘sarovaram’ restaurant at Kochi city in Kerala. It is beautiful and elegant. Every Laurie Baker building is a monument to him. I like the ambiance of Sarovaram restaurant, and they serve excellent vegetarian food. They do have rooms for rent as well.  One place in Kochi, I love to frequent again and again.

  1. Nice take on the Monument theme! It’s interesting to see all the monuments dedicated to people’s work that didn’t involve statues.
You’re welcome to come and see what my take on the theme is:
